Me and My Marley McGee

It was great yesterday to get out with mom for a walk in a nature park!!! It was sunny and about 14 degrees, finally a spring day! Today its back to winter yet again..frigid rain..yuck!! Anyways, it was wonderful to walk around, there were many people out but they were keeping their distance as we did too. Being in the park reminded me of the same time last year when we went for a walk in the same park and felt free, not knowing the world would get this messed up! Already there are dandelions everywhere but the trees are taking like forever to sprout.

Stone Collection

Stones that I had gotten on my b-day..Green Calcite: connects with your heart chakra and transforms anger into forgiveness and release. The Cats Eye: (actually a necklace): it dispels unwanted energy and its a grounding stone that provides protective energy and amplifies good luck and fortune. Turquoise: promotes mental and spiritual clarity. Enhances wisdom, trust, kindness and understanding..as it absorbs negative energy, it brings joy and inner peace. Pink Agate: this stone eases emotional trauma, calming and soothing and promotes confidence.

Happy Earth Day!

I miss going on long hikes with friends, being in nature, tree-hugging, picking flowers and putting them in my hair, doing meditation at the swamp and listening to the bull frogs. Now I can only watch the sky go by. These pics were taken last summer and I miss everything!!

Boho Belt Collection

Some belts I thrifted a while back when the world was normal! Best find was this amazing red vinyl chain belt from the 70s from Ebay..next one is from a thrift shop (forgot name?) it says "peace" on it with peace signs, the flower power belt is vintage 70s and I picked this one up from Tribal Rhythm, this actually came off of a polyester dress but the dress didn't fit me and the guy there gave it to me for like $2 bucks! Next to that one is my Western buckle belt, this is from Urban Planet, and from Out of the Past, this amazing leather 1970s belt with round buckle..this one is also one of my most fav. finds.  Birthday card I got from a groovy friend!! I think its Holly Hobby from the 70s?? not sure? If anyone knows, please let me know. More belts..snakeskin belt was thrifted, lots of chain belts, coin belts, and my Chanel stretch belt from an Italian boutique in Toronto. Happy Spring!

Best 60s & 70s Shops

1. Out of the Past located in St. Catharines and they also have a shop in Hamilton (never been to that location)..they carry loads of groovy clothing, shoes, bags, accessories, coats, hats..even old vinyl..patches..anything really you can think of. It's my most fav. thriftshop ever!! Although most of their 60s/70s dresses can be very pricey, I can still find some affordable stuff there..i got 2 of my 60s hippie dresses from there, hippie skirts, hippie denim bellbottoms, also my Queen t-shirt, scarves etc..also you can get the brand Sour Puss there..its more 1950s pin-up girl dresses..the lady who owns it is super nice and usually gives me discounts or free stuff with my purchases.
2. Black Market located on Queen St. Toronto..fun place to go!! They do their own silk screening on t-shirts, customizing stuff, have lots of retro clothing etc..a back wall filled from top to bottom of groovy sunglasses..that is so much fun to look through!! Also racks and racks of t-shirts. I got a groovy flower power Brady Bunch style banana bag a long while back from there and still have it! Also got retro stickers there..umm..and my rollerskates! Affordable prices too!
3. Tribal Rhythm..a quirky shop located also on Queen in Toronto not far from Black Market..another fav. shop of mine for years! Have lots of polyester tops, skirts, dresses from 70s!! Pretty good price. You can check them out on Instagram @tribalrhythmvintage..I got lots of groovy hairclips from there, a huge butterfly necklace, polyester pants, a big butterfly pillow etc..

My Top 5 Hippie Exploitation Movies

Psych-Out 1968 movie poster 11 x 14 Jack Nicholson Susan | Etsy
source:etsy.com

1. Easy Rider (1969)..this is the ultimate road trip movie..the story is basically these two biker buddies who travel across the States and meet lots of interesting people along the way, like a hippie commune where they try LSD. They also make friends with a lawyer (Jack Nicholson), and take him along their adventure. It ends real sad though. I also own the soundtrack on vinyl which is filled with great songs!! My fav. is The Weight - The Band.."take a load off Fanny..take a load for free.." and I have this endless obsession with Peter Fonda!! Loooove him!! He's so dreamy on his huge Harley!!
2. Psyche-Out (1968)..love the way the movie starts with The Storybook's Pretty Song from Psyche-Out..later it was covered by Strawberry Alarm Clock. One of the best hippie exploitation films ever! Susan Strasberg plays a deaf girl who takes a bus trip down to the San Francisco Haight-Asbury scene looking for her brother. She meets Stoney (yay..Jack Nicholson again!!), and his hippie band in a coffee shop. Theres plenty of groovy psychedelic posters and art work around. There's a tragic end to this movie as well. I love this quote in the movie: "God is alive and well and living in a sugar cube."
3. I Love You, Alice B. Toklas (1968)..story about Harold (Peter Sellers), a lawyer who is being forced to marry his secretary. He gets side-tracked when he meets up with his brother, Herbie, who happens to be a hippie living in Venice Beach. Herbie's girlfriend is a flower child who loves baking magic brownies. The tripping scene is hilarious when it involves their folks. Harold tries to find himself by becoming a hippie himself, but then he has enough of the lifestyle and decides to marry his secretary after all. There's a groovy guru party scene in it and lots of craziness..its a fun movie!!
4. Go Ask Alice (1973) but it takes place in 1968..this is one of my fav. movies ever!!! It's about a 15 year old girl, Alice, who moves with her family to a new town and she desperately tries making new friends and trying hard to fit in to her new school with dire consequences. I'm sure you've heard of the book Go Ask Alice by Anonymous..the book is a great read!! There's a scene in the movie where she experiences her first LSD trip at a party without knowing it. The song Dear Mr. Fantasy - Traffic plays in the background. She gets hooked on drugs after that and gets into trouble and runs away and then the horrible babysitting scene near the end etc..
5. Woodstock 69..the best concert ever staged!! Love the beginning where they are constructing the stage areas, and people dancing to Going Up the Country..umm..yeah the first half of the docu-movie is more of the performance bits of bands, and 2nd half shows more of the people and interviewing them, and you get to see Janis Joplin behind the scenes, Wavy-Gravy, Jerry Garcia etc..
Other hippie films that are more favourites of mine:
Beyond the Valley of the Dolls, The Trip, Alice's Restaurant, Hair, Maybe I'll Come Home In the Spring, Head and Rainbow Bridge.

Desiderata Child of Universe

Best place for social distancing and practically no one around? the old cemetary. Graveyard walking has been influenced by watching endless hours of Ghost Nation, Scariest Places On Earth, The Holzer Files, Hometown Horror, and Kindred Spirits.  And I created a 1960s psychedelic drawing yesterday.  My energy level goes up when it's more than 16 degrees summer-like weather!
"You are a child of the universe, no less than the trees and the stars; you have a right to be here. And whether or not it is clear to you, no doubt the universe is unfolding as it should." Desiderata - Words For Life By Max Ehrmann, 1927

Mandalas

First Mandala is Nature's Harmony..outer realm is surrounded by sky, mountains and clouds..the next circle is greenery with trees, plants, birds and insects..and the center is where you find your deepest self to awaken the spirit.  Second Mandala is Perfect Symmetry..let all the energies of this mandala float deeper and deeper into your consciousness until your mind becomes peaceful. Third Mandala is Avalokiteshvara (enlightened being of compassion)..feel the energy of his goodness as he sits in a lotus position.

It's My Party & I'll Cry If I Want To..

I had a groovy time on my b-day considering we couldn't go anywhere..can't even walk in parks and nature anymore either..so spent it outside in yard cuddling my Marley-boo..went for a long ride and came across a giant turkey vulture trying to climb a fence..i made my own b-day cake..thank you Betty Crocker..haha..i put raspberry jam in the center and it's a lemon cake and sprinkled the sides and I found a cute Care Bear to put on top..the cake is sooo delicious!!
